An artist's blog of work on the easel Winter 2011: "REDCOAT FIDDLER " We conceive our inspirations for paintings from multiple sources; and this one was subject of a photo shoot I had taken Christmas 2002, during the celebration of Las Posadas at the Fort Restaurant in Morrison, Colorado. Celebrated in Mexico and throughout the United States from December 16 to 24, the Posadas commemorates Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of shelter on the night of the birth of Jesus. The musician leading the procession of actors was stunning, his pose perfect. He is now the figure of a painting I call "The Redcoat Fiddler".
The
Redcoat Fiddler I am now working on his jacket, deepening the folds in the fabric. Next up, the details of the fiddle and adjustment to the background to enlarge the bright spot surrounding the figure, particularly the center of interest, his fingers working the fiddle. I never thought I would enjoy figurative painting as much, though the fiddler made it a delight! -Michele Sires-DeLorean Comment on Facebook or email here. __________________________________________________________ |
